Origin 3’s long-running role as urban designer, author and negotiator of the Design Codes Addendum for the Lawley Urban Extension reached a successful conclusion last week when it was approved at committee by Telford and Wrekin Council.
The Addendum updates the original 2004 Design Codes document produced by EDAW with The Princes Foundation and English Partnerships. Key changes include the introduction of green streets, sustainable drainage integration, play spaces and perhaps most critical, a revised approach to parking. Working with multiple organisations, Origin 3 were able to re-form the code so that it maintains and improves upon the exemplar design quality going forwards, whilst enabling more surety and viability in what is an economically challenging location for developers. Through a long-running collaborative review process, the document has now been fully endorsed by local communities, the planning authority, MADE independent advisors to the West Midlands, the landowner – HCA, and the Lawley Village Developer Group, a housebuilder consortium of Taylor Wimpey, Persimmon, and Barratt.
Origin 3 have extensive experience and capability to assist with producing Design Codes on all different types of projects – if you want to know more please contact Chris Wilson or Peter Widdrington.
